Onnu Projects is pleased to announce that manufacturing has begun on two pyrolysis units for deployment at an exciting new project in East Malaysia.
Working locally with Biocarbon Technologies (a wholly owned subsidiary of Aumkar Plantations Sdn Bhd), the plant will take waste bamboo and agricultural residues from palm plantations and transform it into biochar and green energy for use at local processing sites. The project will be registered with Puro, and become an important CDR operation in the region, removing around 2,400 tCO2e annually.
The technology selected is the C1000 from Woodtek Engineering, and manufacturing has started at their UK site with installation and commissioning expected at the beginning of 2025.
Onnu Projects has been focused on partnerships in Malaysia for over a year now, due to the abundance of highly suitable feedstock for effective pyrolysis. We expect this plant to act as validation for pyrolysis in the region and the model to repeatable at many sites, quickly increasing the CDR and biochar manufacturing capacity.
Prashant Patel of Biocarbon Technologies says "we have been searching for ways to make agriculture in Malaysia more sustainable, and the pyrolysis of biomass which currently serves no purpose is a commercially viable route which we expect will see widespread adoption locally and across the country."
Onnu Projects is the project development partner, serving a role in the design, installation and commissioning of the plant, the ongoing commercialisation of the biochar and the registration and sale of Carbon Credits. Biocarbon Technologies will own and operate the plant.
