Onnu Bioflow Live and Manufacturing Biochar

We are delighted to announce that Onnu Bioflow is live and manufacturing biochar and black pellets at our Ipoh site in Malaysia!

To generate industrial-scale renewable commodities we made two key decisions:

1. To scale operations in South East Asia, where the economics and feedstock availability are far more favourable than in Europe.

1. To design and build our own technology. The throughputs, costs and availability of pyrolysis machinery on the market made it difficult to build large-scale plants and, by designating and building our own machine, we were able to make something that is completely fit-for-purpose.

The result is a throughput of over 50% more than other units we could find, and an amazing level of automation and data collection. By working with Biocarbon Technologies and Kawan Renergy, we have joined pyrolysis technology with torrefaction, meaning we can deploy plants manufacturing biochar, biocarbon and black pellets at the same site.

With our next production site going live in August 2025, and 50 such units planned over the coming years, we are well on our way to producing biochar, biocarbon and black pellets in volumes to satisfy the unmet demand among steel makers and power generators in Asia and beyond.

This week, we were pleased to host some of the largest biomass producers in the region, including FGV, as we develop our partnerships to access high quality feedstocks and roll-out our production capacity.

A big thank you to our partner, Kawan Renergy, who have been amazing in getting this built and operational so quickly. We’ll be delving a bit deeper into our first machine, and our future production sites in the coming weeks.
